Administrative Order No. 116

It is in the best interests of Alaskans that State resources continue to be invested in sound prevention efforts, that the actual numbers of children and families at risk be reduced, that Alaskans be empowered for success, and that healthy lifestyles become the norm for all Alaskans. To accomplish these goals, prevention efforts must remain high on the priority list for every administration.

A strong comprehensive prevention effort is the only viable option to stem the ever increasing tide of social problems and subsequent treatment services. The long-range benefit for Alaskans will be healthier lives and better use of our economic resources.

Therefore, under this Administrative Order, I hereby establish the Office of Prevention within the Department of Health and Social Services.

This order takes effect immediately,

DATED at Juneau, Alaska 3 October 1989.
