I, Sean Parnell, Governor of the State of Alaska, under the authority of Article III, Sections 1 and 24 of the Alaska Constitution, issue this Order to affirm Administrative Order No. 265, establishing the Alaska Food Resource Working Group, and to extend the duration of the working group.
On June 28, 2013, Administrative Order No. 265 was signed, establishing the Alaska Food Resource Working Group to recommend policies and measures to encourage the increased use of locally grown and harvested foods. Consisting of eight State agencies tasked to collaborate with the Alaska Food Policy Council, the University of Alaska, federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, and Alaska Native regional corporations, the working group is to report to the Governor on recommendations for policy changes:
- To increase the use of locally grown and harvested food within State and local institutions, agencies, and schools;
- To increase consumer awareness of the health and economic benefits of purchasing and consuming locally grown food;
- To develop educational programs that highlight Alaska food sources to foster future generations of Alaskan farmers; and
- To protect, preserve, and develop the State’s agricultural land for the benefit of all Alaskans.
This Order affirms the continuation of this important working group. To further the goals of the working group, by this Order, I am extending the date for the working group’s existence until June 30, 2015.
The remaining provisions of Administrative Order No. 265 are unchanged and continue in effect.
This Order takes effect immediately.
Dated at Juneau, Alaska, this 29th day of June, 2014
/s/Sean Parnell
