Prohibitions: A member who has served all or part of two successive terms may not be reappointed unless four years have elapsed since the person last served. Public members cannot be engaged in, have a legal contract with a member of, or have a direct financial interest in the occupation that the board regulates.
Term: 4 years
Chair: Governor may select.
Description: The board is made up of 7 members appointed by the Governor. One member shall be a licensed practical nurse who is currently engaged in licensed practical nursing and has practiced for at least two years immediately preceding appointment; one member shall be a registered nurse engaged in nursing education at the associate, baccalaureate, or graduate degree level at an institution that holds national nursing accreditation; one member shall be an advanced nurse practitioner who is currently engaged in advanced practice nursing and has practiced for at least four years immediately preceding appointment; two members shall be registered nurses at large who are currently engaged in registered nursing and have practiced for at least four years immediately preceding appointment; and two members shall be persons who have no direct financial interest in the health care industry.
Function: The board regulates and approves applications for licenses and permits, and discipline of nurses.
Special facts: Members serve at pleasure of the Governor. A quorum consists of a majority. The board is staffed with an executive administrator located in Anchorage. Members serve until a successor is appointed. An appointment to fill a vacancy is for the remainder of the unexpired term.
Compensation: Standard Travel and Per Diem
Meetings: Quarterly. Location of the meeting varies, usually between Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau.
