Chair: The member at-large serves as chairman.
Description: The commission consists of 5 members appointed by the Governor: one from each of the four judicial districts (AS 22.10.010) and one member appointed from the state at-large. The member at-large serves as chairman.
Function: The commission acts on petitions for incorporation, dissolution, merger, and consolidation of cities and boroughs; annexation to cities and boroughs; detachment from cities and boroughs, and reclassification of cities. The commission also prepares studies of local government boundary problems.
Special facts: The commission presents proposed municipal boundary changes to Legislature in first 10 days of regular session. A quorum consists of 3 members at meetings and 2 at hearings. Members serve at the pleasure of the Governor. The member at-large serves as chairman.
Compensation: Standard Travel and Per Diem
Meetings: At the call of the chair, approximately 4-10 times per year, some of which may be teleconferenced. Up to once a month in busy years, sometimes for several days.
