WHEREAS, faith has played a significant role in American history, inspiring many to seek unity through such tradition as days of prayer and reflections; and
WHEREAS, many Alaskans have been strengthened, assured, and lifted up through prayer. Leaders and citizens of our nation are afforded the privilege of prayer, affirming our spiritual heritage and the principles upon which our nation was founded; and
WHEREAS, this year marks the 69th anniversary of the National Day of Prayer. This year’s theme is “Pray God’s Glory Across the Earth”; and
WHEREAS, Alaska’s population is made up of a wide variety of religious, spiritual, and cultural traditions; each deserving the same respect, recognition, and freedom to practice as the next; and
WHEREAS, we pray for our families, communities, state, and nation; for all citizens to be given the wisdom, guidance, and opportunities to live enriching and fulfilling lives. In addition, we say a special prayer for all those serving in the military, as they have dedicated their lives in the service and protection of our great nation; and
WHEREAS, we give thanks for the many blessings and freedoms in our lives and through prayer and faith may seek to renew our dedication to being respectful and productive members of society.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim May 7, 2020 as:
National Day of Prayer
in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans to respect and observe this day in prayer in a manner of their personal choosing, giving thanks for our many freedoms and blessings and praying for the continued safety and well-being of all citizens.
