WHEREAS, keeping Alaskan families and communities healthy is of utmost importance and directly impacts the success of our great state as a whole. It is vital for the safety and well-being of Alaskans to have access to a variety of treatment options; and
WHEREAS, Alaskans are facing an epidemic of chronic pain due in large part to sedentary lifestyles which continually grow as technology and transportation advances; and
WHEREAS, regular physical activity is essential for the health and well-being of people of all ages, and the benefits include reduced risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and several types of cancer. Physical activity helps weight regulation, helps build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints, and helps to relieve the pain of arthritis; and
WHEREAS, in the United States, 50 million adults struggle with chronic pain and of those, an estimated 19.6 million struggle with chronic pain so severe that it disrupts their daily lives, making work and socialization nearly impossible; and
WHEREAS, chiropractors play an important role in the health care system in Alaska, and the men and women who choose this field of work are dedicated, professional, and highly educated; and
WHEREAS, chiropractic care seeks to focus on the whole person to manage pain and promote health. The practitioners in this field are trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, and to provide nutritional, dietary, and lifestyle advice to help people enhance their physical fitness and overall wellness; and
WHEREAS, chiropractors can be valuable partners in helping Alaskans to keep moving by treating pain and improving function with noninvasive, nondrug approaches that are safe and effective.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim October 2023 as:
Chiropractic Health Month
in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans to recognize and appreciate the important contribution Chiropractors make in improving the quality of life for all Alaskans and to recommit themselves to building habits of daily physical activity, and ultimately, healthy futures.
