Alaska Manufacturing Day

Oct 1, 2021

WHEREAS, craftsmanship and ingenuity is imbedded in the legacy of the Last Frontier and has helped shape this Great State into what it is today; and

WHEREAS, Alaska’s staggering size, natural beauty, vast resources, and strategic location are the envy of the nation. Our land, water, skies, and weather present unique challenges and opportunities for manufacturers; and

WHEREAS, Alaska’s manufacturing industry plays an important role in the State’s economy. Alaska’s fish processors, timber companies, bakeries, furriers, and others support our in-state economy and produce exceptional products, offering Alaskans locally sourced options; and

WHEREAS, with increased consumer interest in purchasing locally created products, demand for Alaskan-Made items has increased. Higher demand can spur production expansion, consequently adding to Alaska’s economy and security. Buying locally made products keeps money circulating within our state; and

WHEREAS, as Alaskans, it is essential to teach our youth the importance of self-sufficiency and adaptability, emphasize the essential role manufacturing has in maintaining a strong economy; and

WHEREAS, Alaska’s manufacturers provide safe, healthy, high-quality products, offering Alaskans local options, and security for our state, which would otherwise be dependent on imported products; and

WHEREAS, Alaska manufacturers are modern day pioneers who provide locally created products necessary to ensure a sustainable future for current and future generations. Alaska is a state rich with resources; with continued education and dedication, generations of Alaskans will reap the benefit of their harvest.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim October 1, 2021 as:
