Governor Dunleavy Announces Attorney General Treg Taylor’s Resignation

Aug 21, 2025

Today, Governor Mike Dunleavy accepted Attorney General Treg Taylor’s resignation. The Governor appointed Taylor in 2021, making him the third longest-serving attorney general since statehood. Taylor’s last day will be Friday, August 29.

“Attorney General Treg Taylor’s sound legal judgment and dedication to public service have made a meaningful difference for Alaska,” said Governor Dunleavy. “From defending our right to develop Alaska’s natural resources to fighting crime, his legal leadership has helped preserve and advance opportunities for everyday Alaskans.”

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the Alaska Attorney General. I am incredibly proud of what the Department has accomplished together fighting federal overreach, making our communities safer, and defending the Alaska way of life. None of these victories would have been possible without the extraordinary attorneys and staff at the Department of Law and the support of the Governor. Their dedication and professionalism inspire me, and I will always be thankful for the opportunity to have served alongside them,” said Alaska Attorney General Treg Taylor.

Governor Dunleavy will appoint an acting attorney general on or before August 29.
