Aug 8, 2025

Governor Mike Dunleavy has appointed Janelle Earls acting commissioner of the Alaska Department of Revenue effective today. Earls is currently the department’s administrative services director, responsible for preparing and implementing its annual budget.

She replaces outgoing Commissioner Adam Crum who announced his resignation two weeks ago.

“I want to thank Governor Dunleavy for placing his trust in me to manage the department and its numerous responsibilities during this important transition period,” said Earls.

Earls began her career with the State over 20 years ago serving in both finance and managerial roles. She spent 13 years at the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services in several managerial roles and has been at the Department of Revenue since May 2024. She lives in Juneau with her husband, has three daughters and two grandchildren.

Earls will serve as acting commissioner until a permanent replacement is selected by Governor Dunleavy.
