WHEREAS, our Nation has been shaped by the actions of women of every socioeconomic background and they represent a significant portion of the workforce, playing a role in every field of professional employment; and
WHEREAS, construction professionals play a vital role in Alaska’s economy and development. The construction industry is one of the largest in the Nation, employing more than eight million individuals in the United States; and
WHEREAS, for more than 43 years, the Alaska Chapter of NAWIC has promoted the employment and advancement of women in the construction industry; and
WHEREAS, the construction community is a driving force in fostering community development through renovation and beautification projects, promotion of skilled trades careers, and a positive vision of the future; and
WHEREAS, the Alaska Chapter of NAWIC has distinguished itself as the voice of women in construction in our State and this year’s theme “Level Up. Build Strong. Communities, Careers and Futures” focuses on community engagement, advancing careers and long-term industry impact; and
WHEREAS, women utilize their skills, abilities, and passions to improve Alaska’s economy and increase the quality of its workforce. Women in construction are leaders in building and enhancing our infrastructure and continue to be a critical part in the development of our Great State.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim March 1 – 7, 2026 as:
Women in Construction Week
in Alaska and encourage all Alaskans to recognize the women in construction who have dedicated their careers to this critical industry.
