WHEREAS, September 17, 2020, marks the 233rd anniversary of the framing of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention; and
WHEREAS, on this day, we reflect on the relevance and importance of the Constitution, and the impact it has on our daily lives; and
WHEREAS, the 55 delegates who penned the Constitution solidified our liberty and fundamental rights as citizens, secured through the sacrifice of our forefathers who fought for our independence, and continually secured by all those past and present who have served in our Armed Forces to this day; and
WHEREAS, the founders of our nation had the forethought to draft a Constitution powered by the American people which operates with separate but equal branches, subject to checks and balances, to ensure the framework would be unbreakable and the freedoms of the people would not be extinguished; and
WHEREAS, this week, we take time to reflect upon our rights and freedoms, appreciate the wisdom of our founding fathers in the careful construction of our Constitution, and give thanks for the men and women in our military who continue to protect democracy.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim September 17-23, 2020 as:
United States Constitution Week
in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans to read the Constitution, and reflect on the privilege of our civil responsibilities as citizens to be engaged and participate in our government.
