Description: The board consists of 8 members appointed by Governor: 5 licensed physicians residing in as many separate Alaska judicial districts as possible, 1 physician assistant licensed under AS 08.64.107, and 2 persons with no direct financial interest in the health care industry.
Function: The Board is responsible for the licensing, regulation, and discipline of allopathic and osteopathic physicians, podiatrists, physician assistants, and mobile intensive care paramedics in the State of Alaska.
Special facts: A quorum consists of 5 members who serve at the pleasure of the Governor (AS 08.01.020). The board is staffed with an executive administrator located in Juneau. Members serve until a successor is appointed. An appointment to fill a vacancy is for the remainder of the unexpired term.
Compensation: Standard Travel and Per Diem
Meetings: At least 4 times per year, usually quarterly. Location of the meeting varies between as many geographical areas of the state as possible.
