Prohibitions: Members of the board cannot serve more than all or part of two consecutive terms. A member who has served all or part of two successive terms may not be reappointed unless four years have elapsed since the person last served. Public members cannot be engaged in, have a legal contract with a member of, or have a direct financial interest in the occupation that the board regulates.
Term: 4 years
Chair: Board selects. The public member is ineligible to serve as chair.
Description: The board consists of 9 members appointed by Governor: 6 licensed dentists who have engaged in the practice of dentistry in the state for 5 years immediately preceding appointment; 2 dental hygienists who have engaged in the practice of dentistry in the state for 5 years immediately preceding appointment; and 1 public member.
Function: The board regulates and controls licensing, permits, and licensing revocations of the dental profession. The board prepares an annual report to the Governor.
Special facts: A quorum consists of a majority of members. When making appointments of dentists the governor may consider nominees from the Alaska Dental Society. When making appointments of hygienists may consider nominees from the Alaska State Dental Hygienist Association.
Compensation: Standard Travel and Per Diem No additional compensation.
Meetings: At the call of the chairperson, 4 times per year (typically quarterly), or the call of majority of board.
