WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan was a prominent leader who was dedicated to representing American principles on a global scale; and
WHEREAS, President Reagan served two terms as the 40th President of the United States, reshaping national politics with his vision to transform America into a stronger, safer, more prosperous, and more unified Nation; and
WHEREAS, when President Reagan was inaugurated in 1981, the Nation faced rampant inflation, high unemployment, and strained relations with the Soviet Union. He dedicated significant efforts to reducing federal spending, taxes, and the national deficit, while strengthening national defense and security, revitalizing the Nation and ushering in one of the longest economic expansions in American history; and
WHEREAS, President Reagan’s vision of “peace through strength” and diligent negotiation with Soviet Statesman Mikhail Gorbachev led to the creation of the 1987 Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty, eventually resulting in the end of the Cold War; and
WHEREAS, the legacy of Ronald Reagan is defined by hope, faith, and a bold vision for a stronger American future; and today, we proudly commemorate the 115th anniversary of President Reagan’s birth.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim February 6, 2026, as:
Ronald Reagan Day
in Alaska and encourage all Alaskans to reflect on the life, legacy, and the great accomplishments of our country’s 40th President.
