WHEREAS, situations that require the assistance of law enforcement, firefighters, or emergency medical responders can occur at any time; and
WHEREAS, when an emergency occurs, the quick response of law enforcement officers, firefighters, and paramedics is critical to the protection of life and preservation of property; and
WHEREAS, public safety telecommunicators connect those in need of assistance with the emergency service providers who will respond; and
WHEREAS, the safety of our citizens, law enforcement officers, firefighters, and paramedics depends in part on the quality and accuracy of information obtained from the people who contact the emergency communications centers of Alaska; and
WHEREAS, public safety telecommunicators are a lifeline for our first responders and monitor their activities by radio to provide them with information that increases the effectiveness of the first responders and the safety of the citizens requesting assistance; and
WHEREAS, each public safety telecommunicator acts with compassion, understanding, and professionalism in his or her duties, and as the first contact many people have with emergency services, the manner in which emergency calls are handled is a direct reflection of the entire department; and
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska commends the many dedicated public safety telecommunicators that make daily contributions to help keep our State and residents safe.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim April 14 – 20, 2024 as:
Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
in Alaska and encourage Alaskans to show their appreciation for those in our communities that are dedicated to protecting our safety.
