WHEREAS, the State of Alaska is home to a growing number of older Americans who enrich communities through their wealth of knowledge, wisdom, and vast experiences; and
WHEREAS, Alaska’s elders are valuable members of society and Alaska is dedicated to strengthening our state by connecting with, and supporting, older adults, their families, and caregivers; and
WHEREAS, the overall quality of life for aging Alaskans can be greatly enhanced when they are included in public and family events, encouraged to interact with people of different generations, provided assistive services when needed, and offered technology and support systems that allow them to comfortably participate in social activities in our communities; and
WHEREAS, we acknowledge the contributions and sacrifices made by older residents to ensure a better life for future generations, especially those who defended our freedoms as members of the United States Armed Forces; and
WHEREAS, intergenerational cooperation and support plays an important role in the success of our society and we benefit from collective efforts to serve older Americans; and
WHEREAS, Alaska is committed to maintaining safe and healthy environments, access to services, and individual choice for older Alaskans.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Michael J. Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim May 2019 as:
Older Americans Month
in Alaska, and encourage all citizens to take time to engage with older Alaskans, and to acknowledge their ongoing and valuable contributions to our communities.
