Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy has proclaimed September 14-18, 2026, as “Alaska Clean Energy Week,” recognizing Alaska’s vast energy resources and the state’s continued leadership in developing reliable and sustainable energy.
“Alaska is filled with more sustainable energy potential than nearly any place on earth,” said Governor Dunleavy. “That potential includes generation from renewable sources such as wind, solar, hydro, tidal, biomass, geothermal, and hydrogen sources, but it also includes nuclear, oil, natural gas, coal, and carbon capture technologies as well as energy storage.”
The proclamation recognizes the connection between energy security and national security, including Alaska’s significant critical mineral resources. Alaska is home to 57 of the 60 minerals included on the 2025 U.S. List of Critical Minerals, including graphite, cobalt, rare earths, zinc, copper and silver. These resources can support a more resilient power grid, emerging technologies, battery storage and increased domestic production and processing.
Governor Dunleavy also highlighted ongoing efforts to develop Alaska’s energy resources. The proclamation notes President Donald J. Trump’s January 2025 executive order, Unleashing Alaska’s Extraordinary Resource Potential, which directed the federal government to facilitate and expedite energy development in Alaska, including permitting and leasing for resource projects.
The proclamation also recognizes progress on the Alaska LNG Project, which has entered a definitive agreement with the private sector for development of an 807-mile pipeline, liquefaction facility and carbon removal and sequestration plant. The project would provide long term energy security for Alaskans while supplying energy to U.S. allies in the Pacific.
Alaska’s energy opportunities were also highlighted during the fifth annual Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference in May 2026, which brought together more than 1,000 government leaders, industry experts, investors and international partners to discuss opportunities across the full spectrum of energy development.
In proclaiming Alaska Clean Energy Week, Governor Dunleavy encouraged Alaskans, local governments, corporations and small businesses to support “common sense solutions to develop sustainable energy for our future.”
