National Day of Prayer

May 2, 2019

WHEREAS, faith has played a significant role in American history, inspiring many to seek unity through such tradition as days of prayer and reflections; and

WHEREAS, many Alaskans have been strengthened, assured, and lifted up through prayer. Leaders and citizens of our nation are afforded the privilege of prayer, affirming our spiritual heritage and the principles upon which our nation was founded; and

WHEREAS, this year marks the 68th anniversary of the National Day of Prayer. This year’s theme is “Pray for America: Love One Another”; and

WHEREAS, Alaska’s population is made up of a wide variety of religious, spiritual, and cultural traditions; each deserving the same respect, recognition, and freedom to practice as the next; and

WHEREAS, we pray for our families, communities, state, and nation; for all citizens to be given the wisdom, guidance, and opportunities to live enriching and fulfilling lives. In addition, we say a special prayer for all those serving in the military, as they have dedicated their lives in the service of our great nation; and

WHEREAS, we give thanks for the many blessings and freedoms in our lives and through prayer and faith seek to renew our dedication to being respectful and productive members of society.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Michael J. Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim May 2, 2019 as:

National Day of Prayer

in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans to respect and observe this day in prayer, giving thanks for our many freedoms and blessings and praying for the continued safety and well-being of all citizens.
