WHEREAS, in 2025, we commemorate the 37th anniversary of this important day under the National theme “Rethink, Rebuild, and Rise.” This theme highlights the remarkable advancements made in combating HIV/AIDS while emphasizing the ongoing need for innovative prevention and treatment initiatives grounded in scientific research and lessons learned; and

WHEREAS, in the United States, over 1.2 million people are currently living with HIV/AIDS with approximately 31,800 new infections reported in 2023; and

WHEREAS, in Alaska, 2,308 people have been confirmed as living with HIV/AIDS since reporting began in 1982, and of these, 812 are known to have died; and

WHEREAS, over the past three decades, significant medical advancements have transformed HIV into a manageable condition, with daily medications now available that can prevent transmission and enable individuals living with HIV to achieve an undetectable viral load, effectively eliminating the risk of sexual transmission; and

WHEREAS, we recognize and commend the tireless efforts of healthcare professionals, community organizations, faith-based groups, and philanthropic partners who work to expand access to HIV prevention and care services, and who provide vital support to Alaskans living with HIV; and

WHEREAS, we are determined to intensify our efforts in combating HIV/AIDS and provide support to those living with the disease through compassion, empathy, and solidarity.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim December 1, 2025 as:
