Governor Dunleavy Recognizes School Choice Week

January 26, 2021 (Anchorage, AK) – Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy has proclaimed January 24th through January 30th as “School Choice Week” in Alaska and issued the following video:

 

WHEREAS, all children in Alaska should have access to the highest quality education possible; and

WHEREAS, the State of Alaska recognizes the important role that effective education plays in preparing children to be productive, successful adults. Educational opportunities are critical to our state’s economic future; and

WHEREAS, we must exercise creativity in providing a multitude of excellent educational options for parents to choose from due to our State’s unique geographical challenges. Offering educational variety creates ways to diversify and enhance the vibrancy of our communities; and

WHEREAS, Alaska is home to high-quality teaching professionals that offer traditional and creative educational opportunities and are committed to educating our children. Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders; and

WHEREAS, Alaska, along with the nation, has faced the unprecedented challenge of providing alternative processes for education, requiring planning, creativity, and the Alaskan spirit of perseverance in order for Alaska’s educators and parents to continue to provide students with the education they need and to help students stay on track in their educational careers; and

WHEREAS, School Choice Week is a national celebration recognized by millions of students, parents, educators, schools, and community leaders to raise public awareness of the need for effective educational options and to encourage support for family access to educational choices; and

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim January 24 – 30, 2021 as:

School Choice Week

in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans to support and promote the many different forms of education available to our children and commend Alaska’s educators for ensuring opportunities for learning to continue despite this year’s many challenges.
