Governor Dunleavy Hosts U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources Members for Tour of Alaska

Aug 13, 2024

Today Governor Mike Dunleavy welcomed members of the House Committee on Natural Resources to Alaska to learn more about Alaska’s gold standard for responsible resource development, the opportunities natural resource development provides working Alaskans families, and the real-life consequences of the Biden-Harris Administration’s job-killing actions against Alaska.

“Alaska is an energy giant. We’re also a giant when it comes to critical minerals, rare earths and the base metals essential to produce sustainable energy. Yet the Biden-Harris Administration’s Alaska policy of ‘look, but don’t touch’ is depriving Alaskans of opportunities for good-paying jobs and stifling Alaska’s ability to provide for itself,” said Governor Mike Dunleavy. “I’m grateful for Representatives Stauber, Tiffany, and Fulcher making the trip to Alaska to see not only how resource development is done the right way, but also how important it is to life in Alaska. Alaska’s existence is predicated on our ability to develop our resources.”

During their visit, the congressional delegation will be traveling to the North Slope to tour oil and gas facilities and will be meeting with local leaders in North Slope communities.

“We are living in one of the most dangerous times since World War II, as Beijing, Moscow and Tehran attempt to undermine the free world,” said Senator Dan Sullivan. “Yet rather than maximize our nation’s strengths and weaken our adversaries, the Biden-Harris administration is doing the opposite—issuing 66 executive orders and actions directly targeting Alaska and weakening America’s domestic energy production by restricting development in the NPR-A, one of the world’s most prolific energy basins. Outrageously, they are taking these actions against the wishes of the majority of the Alaska Native people on the North Slope—who live closest to, and have the most at stake in responsible resource development in the NPR-A. I want to thank the members of the House Natural Resources Committee, who took the long trip up to Alaska to see for themselves how responsible resource development in our state is being stymied by the Biden-Harris administration. I particularly want to thank Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN), who has done so much for Alaska and for our country.”

“Alaska has been blessed with vast natural resources, including oil and natural gas that can help power the American economy, along with mineral deposits that are necessary for our country’s future, and Alaskans prove every day that these resources can be developed in a safe and responsible manner,” said Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN). “It is a shame that the Biden-Harris Administration has taken step after step to prevent the Alaskan people from developing their precious resources, taking unilateral action after unilateral action to stop development without properly consulting Alaska Native communities and other Alaskans that these decisions affect the most. These are all part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s ‘anywhere but America, any worker but America’ energy and mineral agenda. I’m proud to join Governor Dunleavy, Senator Sullivan, and my colleagues on the Natural Resources Committee this week in touring the state, meeting with local Alaskans, and standing up for their energy and mineral independence.”

“A key pillar of national security is energy security,” said Congressman Russ Fulcher (R-ID). “At a time of increasing global instability, it is paramount the United States prioritize the development of our abundant natural resources to not only strengthen our national security but to also deliver financial relief to millions of Americans who are now paying 48 percent more at the pump due to the Biden-Harris administration’s bankrupt energy policies. I am honored to join Governor Mike Dunleavy, Senator Dan Sullivan, and Representatives Stauber and Tiffany in Alaska to see firsthand the critical role resource development plays for the state and maintaining American energy independence.”

“The global demand for traditional sources of energy is not going away anytime soon. To be successful in meeting that demand, Alaska’s oil and gas industry needs stable fiscal and regulatory policies,” said Alaska Oil and Gas Association President and CEO Kara Moriarty. “We applaud our Governor, Congressional Delegation and partners like Rep. Stauber for their unwavering commitment and determination to fighting for a predictable business climate. Thank you to the members and staff of the House Natural Resources Committee for coming to Alaska to witness firsthand the gold standard in resource development.”

A recording of the press conference is available on the Governor’s Facebook page.
