Governor Dunleavy Encouraged By Record Low Unemployment

Oct 21, 2019

Monday, October 21, 2019 (Anchorage) – Today the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development announced that September 2019’s seasonally adjusted unemployment numbers are at a record low of 6.2% statewide.

“While there is still work to do to grow Alaska’s economy and open our great state for business, I am encouraged that both August and September posted record low unemployment rates of 6.2%. There is optimism in Alaska’s economy, and this is just another indicator that we are heading in the right direction,” said Governor Michael J. Dunleavy. “Private investment is up, GDP is up, personal income is up, and unemployment is down – these all point to an improving economy.”

According to the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development, job growth in September jumped 0.6 percent, or about 2,000 jobs.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rates in Alaska date back to 1976.
