WHEREAS, quality forensic science plays an essential role in investigating a myriad of crimes, from exonerating the innocent to identifying the guilty; and
WHEREAS, forensic science provides a critical role in public outreach and crime prevention, and is emerging in its role as a keystone component of the criminal justice community; and
WHEREAS, crime scene investigators, forensic examiners, and forensic scientists contribute unbiased, accurate, and reliable analyses of evidence recovered from across the nation; and
WHEREAS, countless professional organizations and individuals across the country will be recognizing and celebrating September 17 – 23, 2023, as Forensic Science Week; and
WHEREAS, the diligent individuals that compose our forensic science organizations deserve universal regard and appreciation for their commitment to legitimate scientific investigations for the cause of justice.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim September 17 – 23, 2023, as:
Forensic Science Week
in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans to express their gratitude and respect for the people, facilities, and technologies that make reliable forensic science possible in our community.
