WHEREAS, Computer Science Education Week highlights the crucial role that computer science plays in our society, increasing social interaction, enabling innovation, and creating economic opportunities; and
WHEREAS, computer science is a foundational science for the digital age, and computing technology is an integral part of modern culture, transforming how people interact with each other and the world around them; and
WHEREAS, with the advent of permanent remote work and the buildout of broadband infrastructure throughout the State, all Alaskans, urban and rural, have the ability to access high-paying, technology-driven careers from within their home communities; and
WHEREAS, computer science education is essential in helping students develop technical skills for the modern workforce and work in fulfilling careers like coding, information technology, cybersecurity, telecommunication, and network engineering; and
WHEREAS, the “Hour of AI” is a global initiative and Artificial Intelligence (AI) represents the next frontier of computing, requiring a focus on AI literacy and training so that our students and future workforce have the skills to safely, ethically, and effectively use AI; and
WHEREAS, all students in Alaska deserve a quality education in computer science, including access to highly qualified and well-prepared teachers, technology, and age-appropriate curriculum needed to learn computer science and coding skills, particularly at the elementary and secondary levels of education; and
WHEREAS, raising awareness of the importance of computer science education benefits our students, their families, and Alaskan communities.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim December 8-14, 2025, as:
Computer Science Education Week
in Alaska and encourage all Alaskans to increase their awareness of the importance of computer science education.
