WHEREAS, Alaskans are committed to recognizing that our growth and strength depends on the safety and effectiveness of our homes, buildings, and infrastructure, in daily life and when disasters strike; and
WHEREAS, our confidence in the resilience of these buildings can only be achieved through the dedication of vigilant building safety inspectors, fire prevention officials, architects, engineers, builders, tradespeople, design professionals, laborers, and others in the construction industry who work year-round to ensure the safe construction of buildings; and
WHEREAS, the International Code Council is a nonprofit that unites local, State, and Federal officials who are experts in the field and they create and implement the highest quality codes to protect us in the buildings where we live, work, learn, and play; and
WHEREAS, these modern building codes provide our communities with economic and technological benefits and include safeguards to protect the public from natural disasters such as hurricanes, snowstorms, wildland fires, floods, and earthquakes; and
WHEREAS, Building Safety Month helps remind all Alaskans of the critical role our state and local code officials play in providing safe, sustainable, and affordable buildings that are essential to our livelihood; and
WHEREAS, the theme for Building Safety Month 2025 is “Game On!” and encourages all Alaskans to raise awareness about building safety on a personal, local, and global scale.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim May 2025 as:
Building Safety Month
in Alaska and encourage Alaskans to commit to improving building safety and economic investment at home and in the community, and to recognize the essential services provided to all of us by state and local agencies who have the mission to educate while protecting our lives and property.
