WHEREAS, Alaska summers offer longer days and abundant opportunities to enjoy the outdoors with family and friends; and
WHEREAS, barbecuing is one such opportunity, being a distinctly American pastime that embodies the spirit of summer, bringing together loved ones and neighbors to share delicious food and create lasting memories; and
WHEREAS, the annual State BBQ Championship takes place June 20 – 22, 2025 in Eagle River, and will test the skills and creativity of the most dedicated barbecue chefs in Alaska. Participants can anticipate a menu rich in diversity with unique styles and flavors; and
WHEREAS, this tradition has become a local mainstay bringing together barbecue enthusiasts each year to engage in friendly competition, demonstrate their culinary talents, and celebrate the spirit of community through food and festivity; and
WHEREAS, we encourage Alaskans to take the opportunity throughout the summer to join in the spirit of barbecuing either as a form of culinary skill and technique, or simply to enjoy delicious food and meaningful time with friends and loved ones.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim June 2025 as:
BBQ Month
in Alaska and encourage all Alaskans to appreciate the friendships and festivities that can take place around barbecues all over the State.
