WHEREAS, Alaska summers bring longer days and many opportunities for outdoor activities to enjoy with family and friends; and
WHEREAS, barbecuing is one such opportunity, being a distinctively American culinary tradition universally identified with summertime, family fun, and the sharing of delicious food with family, good friends, and neighbors; and
WHEREAS, the annual State BBQ Championships take place July 26 – 27, 2024 in Eagle River and will test the skills and creativity of the most dedicated barbecue cooks in Alaska. Participants can anticipate a menu rich in diversity with unique styles and flavors; and
WHEREAS, this tradition has become a local mainstay for barbecue lovers, who gather this year under the theme, “Last Frontier BBQ Throwdown” to enjoy the summer weather, delicious food, and friendly competition; and
WHEREAS, we encourage Alaskans to take the opportunity throughout the summer to join in the spirit of barbecuing either as a form of culinary art and technique, or simply as a way to enjoy delightful meals and quality time with friends and loved ones.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim July 2024 as:
BBQ Month
in Alaska and encourage all Alaskans to appreciate the friendships and festivities that can take place around barbecues all over the State.
