Alaska Manufacturing Day

Oct 6, 2023

WHEREAS, craftsmanship and ingenuity is embedded in the legacy of the Last Frontier and has has helped shape our great state into what it is today; and

WHEREAS, Alaska’s breathtaking size, natural beauty, bountiful resources, and strategic location are the envy of the nation. Our land, water, skies, and weather present unique hurdles and opportunities for manufacturers; and

WHEREAS, Alaska’s manufacturing industry plays a vital role in the state’s economy. Our local fish processors, timber companies, bakeries, furriers, and others work in tandem to support our in-state economy and produce exceptional products, offering Alaskans locally sourced options; and

WHEREAS, as consumer interest in purchasing locally created products increases, so too does the demand for Alaskan-Made items. Higher demand can spur production expansion, subsequently adding to Alaska’s economy and security. Purchasing locally made products keeps money circulating within our state; and

WHEREAS, it is crucial to teach our youth the importance of self-sufficiency, adaptability, and emphasize the essential role manufacturing has in sustaining a strong economy; and

WHEREAS, Our state’s manufacturers provide safe, healthy, high-quality products, offering Alaskans local options, and security for our state, which would otherwise be dependent on imported products; and

WHEREAS, Alaska manufacturers are modern day pioneers who supply locally created products necessary to ensure a sustainable future for current and future generations. Alaska is a state abundant with resources; with continued guidance and dedication, generations of Alaskans will reap the benefit of their harvest.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim October 6, 2023 as:
