WHEREAS, entrepreneurs and startup businesses play a vital role in the growth and expansion of Alaska’s economy, creating new businesses and jobs throughout our city, state, and country; and
WHEREAS, entrepreneurs demonstrate resiliency, passion, and the ability to overcome challenges through hard work, ingenuity, and persistence; and
WHEREAS, entrepreneurs benefit from technical assistance, education, training, and mentorship to successfully start and grow their business; and
WHEREAS, Alaska Startup Week, originally called Alaska Entrepreneurship Week, is volunteer-led and was first organized by the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) in 2013; and
WHEREAS, Alaska Startup Week works to create opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship in Alaska and is sponsored by various local organizations; and
WHEREAS, Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is happening worldwide November 13-19, 2023, and is the world’s largest celebration of the innovators and job creators whose startups bring new ideas to life and drive economic growth.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim October 1 – October 7, 2023 as:
Alaska Startup Week
in Alaska, and encourage citizens to consider the ways we can support Alaskan businesses, encourage new growth and development, and improve our economy for the benefit of all Alaskans.
