The Week of the Young Child

Apr 2, 2022

WHEREAS, children are our most precious resource. The early years of a child’s life are vital in shaping their learning and development; and

WHEREAS, a bright future for Alaska depends on the quality of early childhood experiences provided to our children today. A child’s parents, family members, volunteers, mentors, teachers, day care providers, and others in the community can support early learning for all young children; and

WHEREAS, we must demonstrate a commitment to our children’s future by protecting them from violence, abuse, and neglect and creating safe homes and strong families for all Alaskan children; and

WHEREAS, parents have the responsibility and optimal position to engage their children in order to nurture their well-being, teach them character-building values, and develop their social skills and cognitive abilities. Parents should take an active role in instilling a love for learning in their children; and

WHEREAS, families, teachers, administrators, local organizations, and many others who provide their time and effort to support families and to make a difference in the lives of Alaska’s children deserve our thanks and recognition; and

WHEREAS, the Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize that the early childhood years are the foundation for children’s success in their academic careers and adulthood, and have a vital impact on their personal development.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim April 2 – 8, 2022 as:

The Week of the Young Child

in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans to value the young children in their lives and communities and to support and help create vibrant and positive experiences in their early years.
