Description: IOGCC represents 37 states. The Governor of each IOGCC state serves as the state’s representative to the commission. Each Governor also appoints an official representative to the IOGCC to represent the state in the event the Governor is not able to be present. The Governor also appoints an associate representative to assist and substitute during the absence of the official representative.

Function: IOGCC has no inherent power except that of logic and persuasion in working for laws, regulations and advanced technology to conserve oil and gas; to research topics concerning enhanced recovery, environmental problems, legal and engineering concerns and geothermal potential. The mission of the IOGCC is to promote the conservation and efficient recovery of domestic oil and natural gas resources, while protecting health, safety, and the environment.

Special facts: IOGCC staff represents the states’ interest by appearing before federal regulatory agencies as expert witnesses on the various facets of oil and gas conservation. Serve at the pleasure of the Governor. The commission does not solicit or accept funds from the oil industry or other organizations. It relies solely on member states who voluntarily supply operating funds.
