Description: The board consists of 7 members: the Commissioners of the Department of Revenue and the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development or their respective designees; five public members, each of whom has expertise in private sector business or industry, or both, and possesses demonstrated leadership skills.

Function: The purpose of the authority is to promote, develop, and advance the general prosperity and economic welfare of the people of Alaska, to relieve problems of unemployment, and to create additional employment by (1) providing various means of financing and means of facilitating the financing, in cooperation with federal, state, and private institutions, of industrial, manufacturing, export, small business, and business enterprises and other facilities; (2) owning and operating the enterprises and other facilities; (3) fostering the expansion of exports of Alaska goods, services, and raw materials; (4) cooperating and acting in conjunction with other organizations, public and private, the objects of which are the promotion and advancement of export trade activities in the state; (5) establishing a source of funding credit guarantees and insurance, not otherwise available, to support export development; (6) providing and cooperating or participating with federal, state, and private institutions to provide actual and potential Alaska exporters, particularly small- and medium-sized exporters, with financial assistance in support of export transactions.

Special facts: Public members of the Authority are appointed to provide as broad a geographical representation as practical, and represent a broad spectrum of the industries most important to the state’s economic development. Public members serve at the pleasure of the Governor. Members elect chair. Members of the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority board are also members of the Alaska Energy Authority. The authority shall send certified copies of meeting minutes to the Governor and Legislative Budget and Audit Committee.

Compensation: Standard Travel and Per Diem Public members receive $100 per day.

Meetings: 12 meetings per year.
