Governor Dunleavy Appoints Joan Wilson as AMCO Executive Director

Today, Governor Mike Dunleavy appointed Joan Wilson to serve as executive director of the Alaska Alcohol & Marijuana Control Office (AMCO) effective May 8, 2022. She is currently a Senior Assistant Attorney General in the Alaska Department of Law, where she serves as an advisor to AMCO. She replaces Glen Klinkhart who is transferring to a new position in the Alaska Department of Revenue starting April 18. During the transition period, AMCO Licensing and Records Supervisor Carrie Craig will serve as the acting executive director at AMCO.

Ms. Wilson is a seasoned attorney with 25 years of experience in civil and criminal law in both the private and public sectors. She is a contributing author to the Attorney General Alliance’s Cannabis Law Deskbook, an in-depth accounting of the ever-evolving field of cannabis law, and is currently working on the second edition of the book. She earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College.

Ms. Wilson also serves her community as a board member on the Municipality of Anchorage, Board of Ethics, and the Bear Valley Community Association. She resides in Alaska’s largest city with her husband and daughter.
