Careers in Construction Month 2026

WHEREAS, the construction industry is one of the Nation’s largest sectors, employing over twelve million individuals in the United States, and needs more than 450,000 new craft professionals in 2027; and

WHEREAS, construction professionals play a pivotal role in Alaska’s economic growth and development and Alaska’s world-class network of Joint Apprenticeship Training Committees, coupled with industry training organizations, ensures a continuing influx of skilled workers to meet the State’s evolving construction needs; and

WHEREAS, career and technical education programs, schools, employers, and trade associations are encouraged to host job fairs, panel discussions, and community events to inform Alaskans about the diverse employment opportunities within the construction industry; and

WHEREAS, the goal of the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Build Your Future initiative is to shift the public’s negative perception about careers in the construction industry and give a path for individuals to become craft professionals; and

WHEREAS, the mission of NCCER’s Build Your Future initiative is to narrow the skills gap by guiding America’s youth and displaced workers toward opportunities that lead to lifelong and rewarding careers in construction; and

WHEREAS, the State of Alaska’s Department of Labor and Workforce Development offers training opportunities to all Alaskans interested in pursuing a career in the construction industry, thereby strengthening our workforce and contributing to Alaska’s future development and economy.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim October 2026 as:

Careers in Construction Month

in Alaska and encourage all Alaskans to explore the many benefits of a career in construction, to consider entering the field through Registered Apprenticeships, and to celebrate the positive impact construction professionals have on our infrastructure and economy.
