Alaska Blood Donation Week 2026

WHEREAS, the State of Alaska is committed to ensuring the safety and security of its residents and those visiting our state by ensuring that our medical centers have a sufficient supply of blood; and

WHEREAS, a local in-state sufficient blood supply is crucial for treating those recovering from accidents, traumas, surgeries, and even some illnesses; and

WHEREAS, one blood donation can help save multiple lives and although most of the population is eligible to donate blood, only two percent of Alaskans donate blood annually; and

WHEREAS, we are grateful for the many donors who have played a vital role in saving innumerable lives in our State by giving blood; and

WHEREAS, medical personnel and patients benefit from committed public services and private organizations that support blood donations, including Blood Bank of Alaska; and

WHEREAS, we urge all eligible Alaskans to increase blood donation participation to ensure we keep an adequate blood supply, which is critical for Alaskans and saves lives.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim September 1-7, 2026 as:

Alaska Blood Donation Week

in Alaska and encourage all Alaskans to recognize the importance of maintaining a sufficient blood supply through the act of blood donation.
