WHEREAS, Alaska Apprenticeship Week celebrates the vital role Registered Apprenticeship programs play in providing opportunities to Alaskans by allowing apprentices to earn wages while gaining valuable skills and preparing for long-term career success; and
WHEREAS, the progress and well-being of Alaska depend on its ability to expand opportunities in its workforce and apprenticeship programs are a proven, industry-driven workforce development model that enables employers to cultivate a skilled workforce while providing Alaskans with pathways to secure high-paying jobs; and
WHEREAS, Alaska employers utilize Registered Apprenticeship across critical sectors, including construction, maritime, healthcare, energy, transportation, mining, information technology, and other essential industries that support the State’s economic growth and infrastructure needs; and
WHEREAS, these programs uniquely meet the changing demands of Alaska’s economy and provide a path for all qualified individuals to become apprentices and contribute to Alaska’s industries; and
WHEREAS, youth apprenticeship programs, combined with career and technical education programs, play a vital role in providing job opportunities and pathways to Alaskans by allowing youth apprentices to earn while they learn, advance into good, quality jobs and well-paying careers, and the ability to advance in those careers; and
WHEREAS, strengthening apprenticeship opportunities supports Alaska’s long-term workforce development goals and ensures that employers have access to a highly skilled, job-ready workforce.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mike Dunleavy, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim April 26 – May 2, 2026, as:
Alaska Apprenticeship Week
in Alaska and encourage all Alaskans to seek out information regarding the benefits of apprenticeships celebrate the positive impacts these programs have on our infrastructure and economy.
