Governor Recognizes Passing of Former Sen. Kookesh

May 28, 2021 (Anchorage, AK) – Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy and First Lady Rose Dunleavy issued the following statement on the passing of former Alaska State Senator Albert Kookesh, who served in the Alaska State House of Representatives from 1997-2004 and the Senate from 2005-2012:

“Albert committed his life to public service and advancing Alaska Native issues through his work with Kootznoowoo Inc., as a 16-year legislator, a co-chair of the Alaska Federation of Natives, a board member of the Sealaska Corporation, and so many other endeavors. He embodied the Alaskan spirit and his legacy of leadership and dedication to the people of Alaska will live on long past his death. We offer our sincere condolences to the Kookesh family and the community of Angoon in this time of mourning.”

Governor Dunleavy has ordered that U.S. flags and Alaska state flags fly at half-staff on June 4, 2021 in honor of Senator Albert Kookesh.
