Flags to be Flown at Half-Staff in Honor of Former Representative Brenda Itta-Lee

Governor Mike Dunleavy and First Lady Rose Dunleavy extend their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of former Alaska Representative Brenda Itta-Lee.

In 1975, Itta-Lee became the first Alaska Native woman to serve in the Alaska House of Representatives. After leaving office she became a respected leader serving on the Arctic Slope Regional Corporation Board of Directors and the North Slope Borough Assembly. She was also instrumental in advocating for the passage of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971.

“Alaska has lost a true pioneer,” said Governor Dunleavy. “Mrs. Itta-Lee left her mark on so many of the most consequential and important issues facing Alaska Natives and the entire state that her name is forever etched in our state’s history. Her legacy will serve as an inspiration for future leaders across Alaska.”

Governor Dunleavy has ordered that Alaska and United States flags fly at half-staff between sunrise and sunset on November 13, 2025, in honor of former legislator Brenda Itta-Lee.
