Description: The board consists of 16-20 members: 2 appointed by Governor as gubernatorial representatives on the Board; other members elected by the Forum Board in the following categories: university personnel (academic humanists) and general public; consideration given to geographical, ethnic, and disciplinary representation. Function: Develops programs and projects, establishes policy, procures resources to support programs and projects, reviews grant proposals, and encourages public interest in the humanities. Special facts: The forum consists of 2 members appointed by the Governor and serve at the pleasure of the Governor. Council by-laws state that each member shall serve for terms of three years. They may be re-elected, but no director may serve more than two consecutive full terms without at least one year’s break in service. Directors serving under appointment by the Governor shall serve at the pleasure of the Governor, but for no more than six years. Terms of directors shall be staggered so that no more than one-third of directors shall be elected or appointed each year. Compensation: Standard Travel Travel expenses only.
