WHEREAS, each year since 1985, public employees have been recognized for their accomplishments and the services they provide to members of the public every day; and
WHEREAS, even though there are regular changes in leadership caused by the democratic process of elections, public employees on the federal, State and local levels provide security, stability, continuity, and innovation every day in Alaska and around the world; and
WHEREAS, these hard working individuals do the work that keeps our cities, state, and nation working; and
WHEREAS, public service employees include military personnel, police officers, firefighters, border patrol officers, embassy employees, health care professionals, and first responders who often risk their lives to ensure the safety and security of everyone; and
WHEREAS, other public employees include teachers, doctors, nurses, social workers, administrative assistants, elected officials and their staff, program administrators, public works professionals, safety inspectors, laborers, scientists, and many other professional occupations; and
WHEREAS, especially in fiscally challenging times, we recognize public service employees for the assistance, accomplishments, facilitation, cooperation, and dedication they show to our fellow citizens every day.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Bill Walker, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ALASKA, do hereby proclaim May 7 – 13, 2017 as:
Public Service Recognition Week
and May 10, 2017 as:
State Employee Recognition Day
in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans to recognize and appreciate the contributions of local, State and federal public servants who call Alaska home, and encourage all public servants to work to maintain the public’s trust.
