Description: The commission consists of no specified number of members. Alaska traditionally has 4 or 5 commissioners who are appointed by the Governor, and 1 associate member who is an employee of the Legislature and appointed by the Legislative Council. The Governor appoints the commissioners, based on recommendations, expressions of interest, and qualifications such as: lawyer who has passed the Alaska Bar; good legal analyst and writer; interested and skilled in legislative drafting and legislative process at national level.
Function: The commission works toward the development and promotion of uniform and model laws across state lines covering a wide range of subjects, and helps promote commerce between the states.

Special facts: Alaska became a member of the National Conference in 1913. 1992 marked the 100th year of the National Conference. Alaska's Uniform Law Commissioners have been active in serving on and chairing study, drafting, and other committees of the Conference.
