Day of the Deployed
Effective Date: Friday, October 26th, 2012
WHEREAS, those who answer our nation’s call to serve are deserving of our utmost respect, gratitude, and remembrance; and
WHEREAS, deployed servicemembers of all branches put aside personal desires to protect the safety and freedom of our nation and of people across the globe; and
WHEREAS, those who are deployed represent the character of America to the world and personify the traditional American virtues of patriotism, duty, service to others, sacrifice, and courage, reminding us always of our remarkable heritage and history; and
WHEREAS, deployment takes a toll on servicemembers and their families alike as they endure long absences, missed family landmarks, and deferred plans. As our troops support us, we should support their families; and
WHEREAS, currently there are 500 airmen and 3,300 soldiers deployed on active duty from Alaska – altogether 3,800; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with a resolution of the 112th United States Congress, on October 26, 2012, Americans are encouraged to reaffirm our allegiance to our flag and nation, our love for our country, our patriotism, and to honor our courageous and committed men and women deployed to protect the liberties we enjoy.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sean Parnell, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim October 26, 2012 as:
Day of the Deployed
in Alaska, and urge all Alaskans to honor those who have answered the call to defend our nation with appropriate ceremonies and activities, to remember past service, and to serve and support the families of the deployed.
