School Principal Recognition Day

Effective Date: Friday, October 19th, 2012

WHEREAS, the future of our state rests upon Alaska’s next generation of leaders, businessmen, professionals, teachers, artists, and citizens; and

WHEREAS, schools play an important role in the success of any generation. Providing the opportunity for a transformative education to every Alaskan child is one of the State of Alaska’s highest priorities; and

WHEREAS, school principals are the head of a school, and set a course for scholastic success by leading a school professionally and educationally, and providing an important role model for our youth; and

WHEREAS, principals are responsible for implementing State policies at the local level, directly influencing the success and improvement of our educational objectives; and

WHEREAS, a school is represented locally and to the district by its principal, who seeks to engage parents and the community in the process of education; and

WHEREAS, principals are involved in assessing educational standards and driving progress in classrooms across the nation; and

WHEREAS, we acknowledge the contributions of principals across Alaska and appreciate their tremendous dedication to fostering the educational success of Alaska’s youth.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sean Parnell, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim October 19, 2012 as:

School Principal Recognition Day

in Alaska, and encourage Alaskans to recognize and appreciate the principals who invest in our communities and the lives of our children.
