Alaska BBQ Association State Championship

Effective Date: Saturday, July 21st, 2012

WHEREAS, Alaskans have long been known for their friendliness, hospitality, and community spirit; and

WHEREAS, Alaska’s communities are strengthened through the sharing of food, time, and camaraderie, and through the spirit of friendly competition which Alaskans pursue year-round, but especially during the longer daylight hours of summer; and

WHEREAS, barbecuing is one such activity, being a distinctively American culinary tradition universally identified with summertime, family fun, and the sharing of delicious food with good friends; and

WHEREAS, the Alaska Barbecue Association holds a yearly barbecue competition in Fairbanks to test the skill and creativity of the most dedicated barbecuers in Alaska, who bring an Alaskan flavor to the event through the use of seafood and other regional flavors; and

WHEREAS, this unique competition has become a local mainstay for barbecue lovers, who gather this year under the theme “Smoke’s a Rollin’” to enjoy the summer weather and try classic and new recipes.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sean Parnell, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim July 21 – 22, 2012 as:

2012 Alaska BBQ Association State Championship Days

in Alaska, and encourage Alaskans to appreciate the event’s spirit of community, and the sharing of meals among friends old and new.
