Public Works Week
Effective Date: Sunday, May 20th, 2012
WHEREAS, the public works services provided in our communities are an integral part of Alaskans’ everyday lives; and
WHEREAS, the support of an understanding and informed citizenry is critical to the efficient operation of public works systems and programs such as water, sewer, streets and highways, and public buildings; and
WHEREAS, the health, safety, and comfort of Alaskans greatly depends on these facilities and services; and
WHEREAS, the quality and effectiveness of these facilities, as well as their planning, design, construction, and operation, is vitally dependent on the efforts and skill of public works professionals; and
WHEREAS, National Public Works Week is observed annually during the third full week of May. This year’s theme, “Public Works: Creating a Lasting Impression,” highlights the continual efforts of public works professionals to improve the quality of life for our families and communities.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sean Parnell, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim May 20-26, 2012 as:
Public Works Week
in Alaska, and encourage Alaskans to recognize the contributions made by public works professionals every day to our health, safety, comfort, and quality of life.
