Child Care Provider Appreciation Day

Effective Date: Friday, May 11th, 2012

WHEREAS, Alaska’s children are our most important resource; and

WHEREAS, children’s first and most important caregivers are their parents, and children who have fun, diverse, and engaging early learning experiences are more likely to develop a lifelong love of learning; and

WHEREAS, many of Alaska’s parents depend upon child care providers to assist them in providing quality early learning experiences for their children; and

WHEREAS, Alaska has the capacity to serve more than 22,000 children under the age of 12 in licensed or approved child care facilities, and many more receive child care from certified military facilities, tribally licensed facilities, Head Start programs, and legally exempt providers; and

WHEREAS, quality child care services positively impact the well-being of our communities; and

WHEREAS, Child Care Provider Appreciation Day offers a unique opportunity to recognize and commend child care providers for their dedication, compassion, and support of strong family values, and Alaska is proud to recognize our child care providers for their commitment to our children’s bright future.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sean Parnell, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim May 11, 2012 as:

Child Care Provider Appreciation Day

in Alaska, and encourage Alaskans to recognize and support the efforts and dedication of child care providers throughout our state.
