Military Appreciation Month

Effective Date: Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

WHEREAS, the freedom and security that the citizens of the United States enjoy today are direct results of the sacrifices and continued vigilance of the United States Armed Forces over the history of our great nation; and

WHEREAS, the members of the United States military exemplify the values of civic duty, honor, courage, compassion, and dedication; and

WHEREAS, our Alaska military units – whether active duty members, Alaska Army and Air National Guard, or the Reserves – continue to play a profound role in the global war on terrorism and disaster relief missions by selflessly serving both far from home and within our borders to secure our continued blessings and freedoms; and

WHEREAS, Alaska has greatly benefited from the tremendous efforts of the Armed Forces, and is proud to formally recognize, honor, and extend its appreciation for all service members, past and present, and their families, and to set aside the nationally recognized month of May to pay tribute for the sacrifices and service of the brave men and women of our Armed Forces; and

WHEREAS, Alaska’s military members and their families not only protect, but also contribute to and enrich the lives, connections, and neighborhoods of communities across the state. Our longstanding ties to the Armed Forces since territorial days have resulted in increased security, economic benefit, and stronger communities throughout Alaska.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sean Parnell, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim May 2012 as:

Military Appreciation Month
