National Day of Prayer

Effective Date: Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

WHEREAS, throughout our history, both as a state and as individuals, Alaskans have been strengthened, assured, and lifted up through prayer; and

WHEREAS, Public Law 100-307 calls on citizens to reaffirm the role of prayer in our society by honoring religious diversity and freedom in America, and by observing the National Day of Prayer; and

WHEREAS, the people of Alaska represent a variety of religious, spiritual, and cultural traditions, each deserving the same respect, recognition, and freedom to practice as the next; and

WHEREAS, we pray for a promising and bright future for our families, communities, state, and nation, and that all citizens be given the wisdom, guidance, and opportunities to live enriching and fulfilling lives; and

WHEREAS, let us not forget that the liberty and freedoms we enjoy are protected by the willingness, dedication, and sacrifice of our nation’s military servicemen and women. We say a special prayer for all those serving in the United States Armed Forces, as they have dedicated their lives in the service of our great nation; and

WHEREAS, we give thanks for the many blessings and freedoms in our lives, and through prayer and faith seek to renew our dedication to being respectful and productive members of society.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sean Parnell, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim May 3, 2012 as:

National Day of Prayer

in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans to respect and observe this day in prayer for the continued health, well-being, prosperity, and peace of our state and nation.
