Commissioner Sullivan Deployed to Afghanistan

July 22, 2013, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell today issued the following statement regarding Natural Resources Commissioner Dan Sullivan’s deployment to Afghanistan. Commissioner Sullivan is a lieutenant colonel in the United States Marine Corps.

“All Alaskans should be grateful to Commissioner Sullivan and all our military personnel who answer the call to defend our nation,” Governor Parnell said. “I am very proud of Commissioner Sullivan for his service to Alaska and our country. We wish him safe travels and Godspeed on this mission, and will pray for his safe return.”
Sullivan currently serves in the Selected Marine Corps Reserves as the executive officer of the 4th Marine Division's Anti-Terrorism Battalion. Deputy DNR Commissioner Joe Balash will serve as acting commissioner during Sullivan’s six-week deployment.
