Disaster Declaration Amended for 2013 Floods

Declaration to Include More Communities

June 12, 2013, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell today amended the declaration of disaster emergency for the 2013 spring floods to include more communities affected by flooding. The amendment will extend the disaster area to the Lower Yukon Regional Educational Attendance Area (REAA), including the communities of Emmonak and Alakanuk.

The amendment comes in response to prolonged flooding in these areas due to ice jams and high water from excessive run-off as a result of the rapid late season warm-up.

The governor’s amendment will make the State Disaster Public and Individual assistance programs available to these additional areas. Joint Preliminary Damage Assessments with the Federal Emergency Management Agency are continuing in the various affected communities to determine the extent of the damages and potential for federal assistance.
